How citizens vote under MMP election in New Zealand
NewZealand has got long history of election and it has been changed since first election.These changes are happend in the system of election way of voting and who can vot as awell as anouncing resault of election. The first national election was in 1853, just a year after the British government passed the New Zealand constitution act 1852, and give limited self rule to the settler of New Zealand. From 1853 t0 1996 the election system was first-past-the-post or plurality. In that election only male could vote. New Zealand women gained the right to vote in 1893.the voting age was 21 in these years then later on reduced to 20years of age, and in 1974 changed to 18years of age. New Zealand Parliament give the right of voting to all permanent residents in1975 before only citizens had the right to vote.
New Zealand is a democratic country and has a free and fair election now. In 1996 the voting system changed from traditional (FPP) first-past- the –post to Mixed Member Proportional representation (MMP).The single member electorates replaced with multi member electoral. Under mixed member system each voter cast two votes: one for a local district representative to represent their electoral district, and one for their party of choice. To vote you have to be enrolled every enrolled person name will be in electoral roll, which is a list of people enrolled to vote. Law says that every citizen and permanent resident must be enrolled. The enrolment form is available on post shop or, texting your name and address to 3676 and its free, can fill the enrolment form on line. www.election.org.nz

Selected number of political parties will be in election to vote .New Zealand parliament parties are (Act green, green party , labour party, Maori party, National party, progressive party and united national party) , and opposition party is the party with the second highest number of MP`s.(www.2011election.org)
After being enrol l you will receive an easy vote card on your mail, then on Election Day you can go to your nearest election place it could be a school or community centres etc. you can find them by seeing the signs and they will be open from 9am to 7pm. In election place there is two paper in orange and purple. The orange one is to vote for the party you want to run the country and also to vote for the person as your local candidate, and the purple paper is for the referendum or you want a change in voting system,You tic in front of name of the party and candidiat then you put orange paper in orange box and purple paper in purple box. . Each party will recive one seat in the legislature for each wining candidate from their party,and the party with most vots wins. MMP will work on, what thier people want, and to reach the people needs and bring more life facility for them.
